Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's death the family, it was taken care of by her grandmother, mom and godparents. Ford suffered from anxiety disorder caused by the word association when she was a child. Ford began performing in her teen years and joined part of the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time but Ford realized it was not the right venue for her. Ford applied again to Central School of Speech and Drama and on her fourth application she was admitted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler, a regular character for Doctor Who. Ford was not able to complete her degree in 1993. In 1991, however, Ford had made her first television appearance on the show Surgical Spirit. At that moment, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Also, she was a regular performer in theatres, before eventually becoming a member of in the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate was recognized as a stand-up comedian that was added to her repertoire in 1996.
